Threads of Memory: A Recycled Fabric Paper Landscape Collection
This collection is a deeply personal exploration of memory, transformation, and the connection between past and present. Each piece is crafted from handmade recycled fabric paper, where I’ve repurposed my dad’s old clothes—cherished garments that carry with them stories, warmth, and traces of his life. By creating my own pulps from these fabrics, I not only gave new life to these materials but also wove together fragments of my past, allowing them to become the foundation for something entirely new.
The landscapes painted on these unique papers are inspired by the natural world, yet each one is shaped by the texture and history embedded in the fabric. The pulps I created provide a tactile, organic surface that feels like a bridge between the earth and my memories. As I painted, I allowed the fibers and textures of the paper to influence the colors and forms, bringing depth and emotion into every scene. Through this process, I’ve come to see these landscapes not just as representations of nature, but as an intimate dialogue between the past and the present.
My journey with recycled paper began in Mr. Miley's papermaking class, where I first learned the art of transforming discarded materials into something meaningful. It was there that I found my love for the medium—seeing the potential in what was once overlooked and giving it a new purpose. Mr. Miley's guidance and the freedom of his class helped me discover how art can be a form of recycling not just objects, but memories and experiences as well.
This collection is a tribute to that transformative experience, to the quiet power of paper, and to the way art can help us reimagine the stories and materials that shape our lives. Each piece is a reflection of the landscapes I’ve painted, built on the foundation of my own history, and shaped by the lessons learned in creating something entirely new.
